Monumental English Rosewood Linen Press
made
by Johnson
and
Appleyard, prominent
furniture
makers in the
mid 19th century.
Made in
the year
1861 an
d
purchased from
the great nephew of the
man who made
it.
I was told it came
from the estate
of Dame
Edith
Sitwell, the well
known English
Poe
t
Lauret
who was born the daughter of
a
baronet and
died in
1964. It is a museum
quality piece. This is a
massive piece,
(9 feet 10 in.
tall, 65 inches wide and
32 inches deep).
The interior is fitted with
4 slides, (sliding shelves). The bottom is fitted
with 3 long drawers. This piece offers a great
deal of storage space.
The
finials alone
are 12 inches tall
and 8 inches wide! It is truly
a
piece
you run across
once in a lifetime.
